Leak Detection
Projectile Tube Cleaning, through its Leak Detection Division, offers the precision technology of mass
spectrometry leak detection. With the use of quick and precise procedures we are capable of locating leaks as small as 3 x 10-4 cc/sec, and (in most cases) able to perform testing with the unit on line, operating at a minimum of 15 – 20% load on the steam turbine condenser, or off line by use of the air removal system to pull a sufficient vacuum.
Condenser Air Inleakage - Locates vacuum leaks into the steam space. This can be used to eliminate
corrosion, dissolved oxygen, high back pressure, megawatt loss, etc.
Condenser Tubes - Locates condenser tubes that leak causing contamination of the hotwell. A systematic scan of the tubesheet is performed using helium as a tracer gas, until the leaking tubes are identified and repaired.
Electrical Generator (off-line) - Locates pressure leaks within the hydrogen and/or stator system of the generator. Using a combination of air and helium, the hydrogen and/or stator system is pressurized to
operating pressure. All areas that contain hydrogen are tested for leakage.
Electrical Generator (on-line) - Locates pressure leaks within the hydrogen system of the generator. Helium is injected into the system and all areas that contain hydrogen are tested for leakage.
Guarantee
Projectile Tube Cleaning guarantees that our inspection team will find your air and/or tube leaks which should result in lower levels of condenser off-gas and/or condensate contamination. We will not invoice for the inspection or will reimburse our customer for the amount paid for the inspection if we do not find any leaks during the inspection and the cause of the unit’s operating problem is an air-inleakage or a tube leak.
The following conditions apply:
1. The unit being tested is showing high condenser off-gas and/or condensate contamination levels at the time of inspection.
2. Any other contributing factors have been discussed and eliminated.
3. No crew reductions or partial tests at the customer’s request.
